I managed to order an Xbox Series X!

Just like the title says, I managed to order a brand new Xbox Series X on launch day (Nov 10th) and let me tell you, it was an absolute pain in the ass to actually order the thing. I woke up on the 10th early in the morning around 6am because I had gotten an email from GAME saying they were going to have limited stock of the Xbox Series X and S on sale at 8am. I got the computer ready with the GAME website fully loaded up and waited until 8am. Bang on 8am, I refreshed the website and clicked on the Xbox Series X listing and was presented with this:

"This product is currently out of stock"

When I saw this message, I was thinking to myself "how can this be?" - I literally just refreshed the page and it's already gone out of stock.

Feeling disappointed, I checked Twitter to learn that there was a delay of the stock being added to the site. I still had some hope! I continued to refresh the same page for literally around 4 more hours until it came  up with a queue system. As soon as I saw the queue page, I knew the stock had been added.

To my surprise, I must of refreshed at the right time because I was only in the queue for around 10 seconds until it loaded me back onto the Xbox Series X listing page. When the page loaded after being in the queue, on the right side, "ORDER NOW" was in big bold font. I clicked that button as fast as I could because I knew that the console would literally sell out in seconds, just like the first preorder wave. I clicked the button and the Series X went into my basket without any problems and I managed to confirm my payment details and complete my order. Out of curiosity, I checked the listing page as soon as my order had completed and the console had already sold out. 2 minutes is all it took and it was gone!

Even though I managed to successfully order the Xbox Series X on launch day, the console may not turn up at my house until December 18th due to stock demands. I obviously really want my console right now but I'm just thankful I was able to secure a console.

If you are trying to order an Xbox Series X/S or a PlayStation 5, I wish you good luck. Believe me when I say this, you'll need it!

WWE Thunderdome Tips

I managed to get into the WWE Thunderdome two times in the last week. The first time was at Hell In A Cell 2020 and the second time was the following SmackDown. If you ever want to take part in the WWE Thunderdome, make sure to check out WWE's Twitter or Facebook accounts for registration posts. I would recommend turning on notifications for WWE's Twitter profile because you'll be able to register faster, and speed is important here because "seats" get filled very quickly.

Once you've signed up for the WWE Thunderdome, you'll get a confirmation email usually a day before or the day of the show and you'll receive another email with a link to join the WWE Thunderdome. The email will also give you a call time to join.

Some useful tips:

1. If you join the link on your call time and the WWE Thunderdome is full, keep refreshing the page until there's a space to join.

2. When your in, make sure to be very enthusiastic on camera. The more enthusiastic you are, the more likely you'll be put on the camera side and even in the front row.

3. Don't swear. Even though your voice won't be pumped into the WWE Thunderdome, joining requires you to have your microphone on and WWE moderators are actively looking to make sure people are following the rules. If you swear, you could be cut from the WWE Thunderdome.

4. Make sure to wear WWE merch on camera as you'll more likely be shown on camera.

5. Use a laptop or computer over a mobile phone and make sure the camera is stable and not moving around.

This is what it will look like once you've entered the WWE Thunderdome:

    Get into the Halloween spirit

Halloween is just around the corner and the one thing I love about Halloween is all of the horror films and scary TV programs I get to watch with others. That's how I get into the Halloween spirit, and of course, badly carving pumpkins too.

If you're reading this and not really feeling the Halloween spirit right now, maybe a few movies and music I've listed below can help!

Movies I like to watch around Halloween:

    • Any Friday the 13th movie
    • Ghost Busters 1 and 2
    • Nightmare on Elm Street
    • Halloween (movie)
    • Scream
    • Trick 'R Treat

Songs to listen to around Halloween:

    • Thriller by Michael Jackson
    • Ghostbusters Theme - Ray Parker, Jr
    • Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell
    • Things Go Bump In The Night - allSTARS
    • Hello Zep (SAW Theme Song) - Charlie Clouser

    I hate skill-based matchmaking

So the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta has come out for Xbox and PC and I finally get to try it out. (Thanks Sky VIP for the code!) Just so it's easier to type, I'm going to abbreviate Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War to COD BOCW and skill-based matchmaking to SBMM. Now that's been said, I can finally rant about my experience. Before I got the chance to play the COD BOCW beta, I had been watching YouTuber's online play the game on weekend one, exclusively for PS4 console players. Every single YouTuber I watch said the exact same thing,

"The gameplay is good but SBMM ruins the game"

With that being said, I had a heads up to what sh*t show that was to come. What I didn't know was how extreme the SBMM would actually be in the game and oh my... extreme is an understatement. I load up the game and the first two matches I had were really good. I was running and gunning, shredding everyone who was in my line of sight and earning all my streaks. I honestly thought while playing those two matches that all the YouTuber's I watch were being over dramatic for the video. But boy was I wrong. Really wrong. The third match loads up and I start to play. Instantly I have people drop shotting and slide shotting me. The experience turned from owning n00bs to being in MLG $1 million dollar tournaments.

The more matches I continued to play in the COD BOCW beta, the stricter the SBMM got. I was facing people of the same skill as me and the tier above. It wasn't any fun. SBMM should not be in public matches, only in ranked matches. I loved the old Call of Duty games like Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops 2 because SBMM wasn't a thing. All the matches you played, the people in those matches were random. No one was paired by skill. With the recent Call of Duty games however, you cannot relax because of the stupid SBMM. It literally ruins the game and no matter how much the community complains about it, the developers and publishers don't remove it.

If Treyarch or Activision is reading this (which the won't), please get rid of SBMM from Call of Duty. Or at the least, only have it in ranked play.

    Rant over.

    F**k Covid-19

I'm so tired of this Coronavirus pandemic. Everyday it seems more of our freedoms to do things are taken away from us and the more this pandemic is going on, the more depressed I feel and the less optimistic I am that we will ever go back to normal life. Coronavirus here in the UK is once again getting out of control to the point our most basic freedoms of human interaction is now being taken. As of typing is blog post (14th Oct 2020), the daily number of people being infected with Covid-19 is above 19,000 and the death rate is above 100. The R rate number is rising too and doesn't seem to be slowing so as a result, the infection rate will double even more as it gets higher.

The UK government are even considering a 2 to 3 week "circuit breaker" lock down where we are put under extreme restrictions to try and slow the spread of the virus. However, we went into a 4 month lock down at the start March and where has that gotten us? Yes the infection rate slowed down and even the death rates lowered from the peak of 900 to 1000+ deaths a day but as soon as we went back to some sort of normality, the second wave hits us. Even though these restrictions suck and I hate them so much, I understand why they need to be in place. We have to protect the elderly and the vulnerable. And believe me, I'm all for it. I just don't think lock downs work and this "circuit breaker" lock down will probably have an effect on the transmission rates for a little while and then BOOM! Here comes the third wave. It's just an endless cycle of going in and out of extreme restrictions at this point. I doubt a vaccine that's supposed to be released early next year will really do anything. This virus is most likely like the flu virus where we just have to deal with it and try to live a normal-ish life.

2020 f**king sucks and I hate to be "that guy" but I doubt 2021 will be any better. I guess all we can do is hope as hope seems to be the only thing Governments can't take away from us.

    NHS COVID-19 App

Today, the long awaited NHS COVID-19 app has released in England and Wales after months of delays and problems. The app officially went live at 12am (on the 24th September 2020) and is free to downlad on Apple's App Store and on the Google Play Store.

Now the first thing that comes to mind about a COVID-19 track and trace app is obviously privacy and let's be honest, a government app rings alarm bells when it comes to privacy. However, the difference with the old NHS COVID-19 app that was in testing and the current NHS COVID-19 app that's been publicly released, is that the new COVID-19 app available is open source. The fact that this NHS COVID-19 app is open source makes me feel a whole lot more at ease with having it on my phone. Security researchers and the general public can look at the app's source code on GitHub to see if the app has any code which can compromise your privacy by giving away location data, phone make and IP addresses. So far, nothing in the code that I've personally looked at has alerted me with privacy being compromised when being installed and used but it's always good for yourself to look and inspect the code and make a judgement to install or not.

If you want to know more about how the app works while maintaining your privacy, please scroll down to the end.

When you have installed the app either on the Google Play Store or the App Store, you will be presented with a screen asking if you are aged 16 years or older. 16 years of age is the minimum age required to use the app. Confirming your age, you then have to input the first part of your post code. This is the only information the app collects from you and doesn't identify you personally. From there the app automatically sets up and you're ready to go.

This is the main screen of the NHS COVID-19 app:

On the home screen of the app it has quick options are clearly listed for the user. The NHS COVID-19 app tells you the COVID-19 alert level in the area you live in at the top of the screen. When you click on this, the app tells you to follow national guidance set by the Government depending on the level.

The three levels you can get on the app are:

    - Low

    - Medium

    - High

    Security and Privacy:

With an app like this that alerts you of people you've been in contact with, it's important that privacy is protected and security is strong.

Below is how the app protects your privacy:

    • Bluetooth only

The app only uses Bluetooth and not GPS. This means that your location cannot be recorded and sent to a server for tracking and monitoring purposes. Bluetooth is used to scan for other Bluetooth frequencies that the NHS COVID-19 app sends out and once a connection is made, randomly generated codes from the app are encrypted client side and sent to the other users phone. Client side encryption is important for security and privacy because it prevents MITM (Man In The Middle) attacks from knowing the codes sent from the app. If an attacker is able in intercept the codes from the app, the attackers (black hat hackers, Government agencies) cannot read the code because they are encrypted.

    For example:

    Non encrypted code: AA14VCS

    Encrypted code: 2cxlee4)arvri49/crrwj239fvfAAKnm4552)sadcr93231

    • Cannot see personal information

The app's code has been designed to not be able to monitor or read your contacts that are stored on your phone, your text messages and images. Therefore, the app cannot identify you personally or identify phone information like model numbers, personal phone numbers or monitor other apps installed on the phone.

    • The NHS COVID-19 app uses Apple's and Google's Exposure Notification API

Apple and Google have created a Exposure Notification API that COVID-19 apps use. The API respects the users privacy by doing the following things:

    • Open source software

The NHS COVID-19 app is open source and the code can be viewed on GitHub. Having the app open sourced is important because security researchers can inspect the code and make sure the app is safe to use for protecting your privacy and having strong security. Apps that are closed source is bad because the developers can insert malicious code into the app that can compromise your security and privacy.

Lastly, even though these security practises are in place, remember that nothing is bullet proof. You're security and privacy could still be compromised due to human error but don't be alarmed by this. As the app is open source, you can inspect the code for yourself and make a judgement on installing the app or not. It's very unlikely any malicious code will be inserted into the app as security researches are inspecting the code all the time.

    Xbox Series S/X Pre Orders

Mark your calendars! Xbox Series S and X consoles pre orders go live at 8am BST on September 22nd.

Looking at how Sony handled their pre orders for the PlayStation 5 so poorly, hopefully Xbox won't mess up (like they promise). When the PlayStation 5 immediately went up for pre orders, websites crashed and stock sold out in minutes with a lot of people not being about to secure their console. I have a feeling this will be the same with Xbox when pre orders go live, so make sure you have the retailers websites loaded up just before they go live or you could miss out too.

Despite pre order botches from Sony and the likely hood Microsoft could do the same, this years new generation of consoles will be great for all gamers. The future of console gaming is bright.

Saving up for the Xbox Series S or X

So the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S releases November 10th, and being a long time Xbox user I gotta get one of these consoles. Now that all sounds simple as all I have to do is place a pre-order for the console and pay when it releases. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as that. Money is a big problem for me right now. The coronavirus pandemic has hit me fairly hard financially (like most people) and I simply don't have the money to buy a console.

    Xbox Series S = £249 (left)

    Xbox Series X = £449 (right)

Obviously, I would love to buy the more powerful console of the two, the Xbox Series X but it's way out of my budget. I could go for the cheaper option, the Xbox Series S but even then I'm still going to have to save up. (First world problems, am I right? [sarcasm]) I am going to try and save up enough money for the X but if I can't, I'll most likely go for the S.

I am just hoping that my local game store does a console trade in deal to make the cost of the new console cheaper.

    Tell Me Why Game

    DONTNOD have done it again!

At the time of this writing, DONTNOD's Tell Me Why chapter three is just about to release and I cannot wait. Playing through the first two episodes was a blast and once again reminded me why I love playing DONTNOD's games: great story telling.

Being a massive fan of the Life is Strange games, I was very curious to what direction the team would take this time. What the team have produced is simply a masterpiece. Once again, the team over at DONTNOD have knocked it out of the park and I think Tell Me Why could well be one of their best games to date. You can always tell you're playing a DONTNOD game by the amazing soundtrack that has carefully been selected to bring out the emotions of the player, stories that feel very personal and that everyone can relate to and also the fantastic voice acting.

I don't know how the story will conclude in chapter three but I really do hope DONTNOD make more episodes or make a prequel game like they did with Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

    Final score verdict:

    8.5 / 10 - Impressive

    Boycott Disney's Mulan

If you are a believer in pro-democracy, please boycott Disney's Mulan.

Lead actor Liu Yifei (劉亦菲) who plays the character Mulan, posted the following message onto the social media site Weibo, supporting Hong Kong police (which were using police brutality) in the Hong Kong protests.

"I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong."

Please show support for the people of Hong Kong by not purchasing "Premier Access" to Mulan on Disney Plus and don't go to cinemas to watch the film either. If we decide to watch the film and act like nothing has been happening, then we will only allow this injustice to continue. By not watching Mulan, you say no to police brutality and suppression of pro-democracy.
